Maradona (argentina) y Pelé (Brasil): el apocalíptico y el integrado
La fría estadística dice que Pelé marcó 97 goles con su selección y ganó tres mundiales (58, 62 y 70), mientras que el Diego hizo 33 goles y obtuvo un único Mundial (86).
¿Quién ha sido el mejor futbolista de la historia, Di Stéfano, Pelé, Cruyff o Diego Armando, con permiso de Messi, que todavía está en activo?
Es imposible elegir, porque en esta votación influyen colores, equipos, nacionalidades y gustos.
Y sobre todo porque no se pueden medir épocas tan diferentes, desde los años cincuenta (Di Stéfano y Pelé) hasta los noventa (Maradona), pasando por Cruyff (sesenta y setenta), con fútboles muy distintos.
Solo basta decir que Cruyff fumaba en el descanso de los partidos. Hoy sería impensable, aunque solo fuera por la imagen del gran deportista idolatrado que debe ser espejo para los jóvenes.
Sin poder compararlos, hay datos objetivos de las mejores virtudes de cada figura. Es indudable que Di Stéfano era el jugador más completo y el que más trabajaba. Incansable, fue centrocampista y delantero, bajaba a recibir el balón, creaba la jugada y la remataba. Nadie como él en esa labor de fútbol total.
Es incontestable que Pelé era un mago impredecible. Muy inteligente, tenía velocidad y regate, regateaba en un arranque de tres metros, disparaba desde cualquier posición y poseía un gran remate de cabeza.
Nadie niega que Cruyff era un líder en el campo y tenía el regate más espectacular, con una rapidez endiablada y una visión del juego que muchos no alcanzaban a seguir. Físicamente ha sido el mejor de los cuatro, a pesar de sus paquetes de cigarros.
Y Diego Armando ha sido el mayor artista. Técnicamente, su bota era un pie. Fue un maestro del balón. En sus mejores años desbordaba con primor, disparaba a gol de la manera más inesperada, hacía vaselinas y sus lanzamientos de golpe franco eran impresionantes.
Ningún jugador, ni siquiera Pelé, que conquistó tres Mundiales, llegó a la belleza que Diego plasmó en la Copa del Mundo de México 86. Quien presenció aquellos partidos en directo, por televisión o en los campos, no ha visto nada igual.
Algunos de sus compañeros recuerdan que cuando le parecía cogía una bola de tenis y daba más de 1.200 toques con ella en el vestuario, sin que tocara el suelo.
Les dejaba anodadados. Di Stéfano relataba que un amigo suyo vio a Diego Amando dar más de 1.000 toques con una naranja. Irrepetible ¿Quién es mejor? Todos.
